New York City – November 18, 2021 – TriSpan, a global Private Equity firm, is pleased to announce that Rising Stars, its dedicated restaurant platform, acquired a majority stake in Shell Shack (the “Company”) a highly differentiated full-service seafood concept based in Texas.

A casual-dining concept focused on seafood boils is poised for growth under a new private-equity parent. Dallas-based Shell Shack was founded in 2013 and now has six units in Texas. It prides itself on the quality of its seafood and the secret sauce that flavors many of its dishes. On Tuesday, it was acquired by TriSpan Partners for an undisclosed sum, part of the investor’s Rising Stars program for upstart restaurants.

Dallas restaurant companies Velvet Taco and Shell Shack are expecting to grow their footprints nationally under new ownership deals announced this week for both.

Since July of this year, Houston's Heights has been home to a seafood place that captures all of the flavors that our hometown natives crave - spicy crabs, crawfish, shrimp, tasty fried catfish, mixed cocktails, and craft beers. A Houston outpost of Dallas restaurant Shell Shack is now open at 2412 Washington Avenue and features seafood boils, oysters and sandwiches. It’s in the former Social Junkie location, which was extensively remodeled. The changes include a two-story outdoor patio, an elevator, 24 televisions located throughout the restaurant and a bar on each level.

Serial restaurateur Nick Badovinus, the mind behind popular Dallas spots Neighborhood Services, Town Hearth, and Montlake Cut (among others), will open a new Mexican restaurant on Greenville Avenue. Badovinus will take over the space at 1520 Greenville Avenue with Desert Racer, a spot that will serve fare inspired by the cuisines of the southwestern United States.

Dallas Hale has been in the bar/restaurant industry for decades, holding every position you can imagine. He worked his way up from a bartender, to GM of a restaurant, to a restaurant owner, to a multi-unit restaurant owner with franchises. Crab Station isn’t the only DFW-based seafood restaurant opening an outpost in Houston this summer. As Eater previously reported, Shell Shack, which serves seafood boils in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, is expanding to Houston too, and it won’t be long before Houston residents can try the chain’s “Kitchen Sink” boil with tons of seasoning options and plenty of butter.

To all the Shell Shack fans... they have moved from their Uptown location to a bigger spot on Henderson (the former Mellow Mushroom location), with more parking, and seating! And there's a patio!
